Upon arrival at the, “[YOBE] Yoko Ayukawa’s Art Gallery” I found myself surrounded by vibrant colors and whimsical artworks that brought a feeling of joy and youthfulness to my heart. While the gallery itself is small and cozy, the space is still open and welcoming.

Yobe’s art works are filled with fantasy, little critters and beauty, blending vibrant bold color with fun images to lighten any room. The gallery does well at showing what Yobe can do with a brush and a computer.

I caught up with the artist.

phee:  How long have you been doing art?

Yobe

Yobe: Painter since 2017. After I graduated high school, I started to work at graphic design office.  And I worked as model a lot in Japan. And I worked at Paris Chanel runway, magazines… I worked Hong Kong too. I love to see my paintings to become products. I make my original fashion items too. It is amazing.

In 2017 I worked for photographer and he asked me to bring my drawings to exhibition. So I tried my first acrylic paintings and people loved my art work! I have exhibition at Isetan department in 2018. Group exhibitions at “The National Art Center of Tokyo” and “Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum” in 2017 and 2018. Newest exhibition was August 2020 at DiskUnion record store. I worked for some fashion, book cover, CD jacket.
phee: What a great career, and life. Amazing!  What inspires your art the most?
Yobe: I love rock-n-roll. Picasso. Katsu Yoshida. Keith Haring . Manga, I love drawing since I was a child.
phee: What would you like to tell people seeing your paintings for the first time?
Yobe: If u see my paintings, I want u to be really happy and blow away all the  negative feelings!
phee: Your lovely paintings do just that! Thank you, Yobe!

I recommend stopping by for a visit. Be sure to take some time to envelope yourself into the imagery, and you’ll find yourself in a dream world where only peace and happiness can remain.
